Project One - not your typical film-makers film.

Writers / Directors Joby Stephens and Adam Kirley have always had an idea from the outset of an action film - entitled 'Shadow'.

Yet for most of their shots and ideas to come true for 'Shadow', a large budget was needed. As a test of their ability and with the equipment they had available they began devising a short 'prologue' for Shadow. They named it 'Project One' - It was to be a zero budget action short.

June 2004 -

In 2004 a location in the south of England was found that was then adapted over several recce's and a short film was filmed over two days. With two cameras and a few people. Project One's filming was seemingly completed...

The original edit to Project One was edited by November 2004, but due to issues with time and many constraints, the summer of 2005 crept up and that original edit hadn't been released.. Instead of releasing this now weakened and tired final edit of the original Project One, the pair decided to re-refilm a new ending of the film.

May 2005 -
A few tears were shed when the original location was found to be completely destroyed and flats built on the land. The image below left is where most of the newly written battle was going to take place, but upon our next recce, we discovered it to be merely dust and rocks. - and where the original mill was flats/stables were being built.

June 2005 -
Hundreds of square miles of searching revealed a new location in Buckinghamshire, about 50 miles west of London. This location required more planning, more people and more equipment.

Two days (a weekend) at the end of July were chosen for filming, to maximise the day and weather we had - the majority of people camped inside and around the location itself. Adam decided to sleep in a large lorry and Joby slept in the military vehicle seen in the film.

November/December 2005 -
Originally, a composer had been working on the project since the original edit, but due to personal reasons that composer had dropped out, the search for a composer to complete the project began. Whilst searching for a composer the film had access to a sound studio in South London where all the sound in the film was completely re-folyed and dubbed in two weeks - whilst filming only temporary sound had been captured from the onboard camera microphone. - Before and after comparisons of the sound can be found on the DVD.

The special effects were completed after grading of the footage in December 2005. A pre-release version of the special effects program VisionLab had been released and this pre-release helped create the effects seen in the film.

February/March -
After searching, a composer (Siddhartha Barnhoorn) in Holland was found who was willing to put time aside to score a soundtrack for the film. It was now up to the dutch composer to give Project One its musical feel. Every few nights Joby would send a mass of notes and cue times to Sid via email, a few days later a temp score would be returned. During this process Joby edited and prepared the internet teaser for www.fxhome.com and prepared all the extras for the two seperate editions of the DVD.

April 2006 -
Two years, two locations and two cameras later. Project One was completed. Please support us and buy the DVD! - Not just for the film, the extras are fantastic!
